Integrating Topaz AI
It’s been about 2 weeks since I began experimenting with integrating Topaz AI into my post processing workflow. During this period I’ve had a number of personal emails from readers asking if I’ve decided to keep using DxO PRIME or switch to Topaz Denoise AI. Most also wanted to know if I would be using Topaz Sharpen AI on a regular basis. I’ve finally reached a decision.
Small Sensor Landscape
This article discusses small sensor landscape photography. It may be a good idea to grab a cup of coffee or brew some tea, and settle in for a while… as this is a fairly lengthy article.
We typically want to achieve deep depth-of-field with landscape images. So, our choice of lens focal length, aperture and focusing distance all need to be considered. It is also important to use as low an ISO value as possible to maintain the most dynamic range and colour depth in our landscape photographs when using small sensor cameras.
Early Morning Egret
On occasion we may happen to be at the right place, at the right time… as was the case with this early morning egret. This article shares a selection of six images from the same AF-C run. Even though all of the photographs are of the same bird, you’ll notice the differences that subject angle, wing position and background can make to an image.
American Goldfinch
Late August through to mid September is one of the best times in Southern Ontario to photograph the American goldfinch. Our backyard has quite a few plantings of Echinacea, commonly called coneflowers. As a photographer I look forward to these flowers wilting and drying up. Why? American goldfinch like to eat the seeds from these flower heads… thus creating some good opportunities to photograph these skittish, quick birds.
Backyard Sparrows
This article features a selection of images of backyard sparrows that I photographed a couple of days ago. I haven’t been able to get out with my cameras very much lately and I could tell that I was getting a bit rusty. Backyard sparrows may be very common birds, but they are still enjoyable to photograph.
F/13 High ISO Test
This article shares a series of f/13 high ISO test images captured handheld with Olympus camera gear.
Like many other photographers I’ve been investigating the recently announced M.Zuiko 100-400 mm f/5-6.3 IS super telephoto zoom lens. The fact that this lens will accept M.Zuiko MC-14 and MC-20 teleconverters really appeals to me, since I own the 2X version. Using it with the 100-400 zoom would mean shooting at high ISO values with an aperture of f/13 at least some of the time.
