If find yourself travelling in the Adare area of Ireland, a visit to the Holy Trinity Abbey Church is something to consider.

Although there is no exact date when the Holy Trinity Abbey Church’s foundation was laid, it is estimated to have occurred between 1230 and 1240.

This is the original site of the only Trinitarian Abbey in Ireland. It was dissolved in the 1560’s.

The 2nd Earl of Dunraven restored the ruins of the Trinitarian Abbey in 1809. He then gave it to the Catholic Church in Adare.

The building has not been subject to any major structural changes since 1884.

In the summer of 2010 a number of critical repairs were started to help preserve the Holy Trinity Abbey Church.

The parish is still active and during our visit a baptism was underway.

If you are travelling in the Adare area, the Holy Trinity Abbey Church is easy to find. It is located near the main visitor centre in Adare.

You’ll find beautiful stained glass, impressive stonework and many fine details. All of which make for interesting photographic subjects.

I used a wide angle zoom lens for all of the images in this article. Perspective control adjustments were made to most of the images in post processing.

Photographs were captured hand-held using camera gear as noted in the EXIF data. All images were produced from RAW files using my standard process.

This is a beautiful place to visit. You have nicely captured the grandeur of the Abby. Picture no. 8 is my favorite of the set. Thanks for allowing us to virtually visit this site.
I’m glad you enjoyed the images Ray!

Hi Tom,
Great photos!
And what a small world – I was in Adare around the same time, at the wedding of one of my wife’s nieces. As we discovered on a previous visit, Adare has many little boutiques, and my wife bought her wedding outfit there!
There’s also very interesting ruins of the abbey at St Nicholas church, just outside Adare, we took some photos of the bridal party there.

Hi Dave,
It is a very small world! My wife and I also visited St. Nicholas church during our visit to Adare and took some time to capture a few images.
